Brandi Carlile (click here) has a new album! I know you don’t call them albums anymore, but… I think she’s about 25 (note spelling of Brandi. For that matter, note “Brandi”). Her voice is heartbreakingly beautiful. A year or so ago, my girlfriend, Janet, made me listen to something she had downloaded from KCRW. It was a live acoustic performance of Brandi Carlile singing Hallelujah, that Leonard Cohen song. Go to iTunes and get it. It’s addictive and it makes you cry, which is inconvenient, since it’s addictive. Her other albums(!) are Brandi Carlile, Acoustic and the new one, The Story. There isn’t that much that is truly moving in rock music, or any music, I suppose, and perhaps she is considered more folk than rock, but whatever she is, she is the real thing.

Read this book. Immediately!! It’s so unlike what most writers are doing these days. There is unashamed feeling and unashamed intelligence and a humor that is both sharp and subtle. It’s an incredibly beautiful book. And because this is my blog and not a review, I say to you simply: READ IT!!! It’s my favorite book of the last few years.
